Artwork

Q: Do you really offer an obligation free design service?

A: Yes we do!!

Our professional graphic designers are more than happy to create any design that you would like for free!!

That's right no obligation!!.

Just contact us with your ideas and we will happily put them on a flag or banner for you.

We can even recreate your design from a photo if you have lost your original artwork. Just email your picture to us and we will do the rest for you.

We like to make your life easy so that you can get on with running your business.

Don't forget that we do NOT charge any hidden fees or extras charges!!

Q: What about if I have my own logo that I want you to put on a flag?

A: If you have your own logo in an electronic format, that is great.

It would be best supplied in a vector format like .AI, .EPS or .CDR file.

But if you only have a picture that is fine to as we can recreate it for you.

Q: What about if I have my artwork ready but I want you to change it slightly?

A: We are more than happy to do any changes you want big or small, just email it through to us!

Q: If I want to create my own artwork do you have a template that I can use?

A: Yes, you can find the templates for our popular sizes and shapes here: Custom Product Templates

Q: What about designing a shape or size that does not match one of your popular products?

A: We are always happy to manufacture any size or shape flag, banner or any other promotional product to suit your needs.

Just email us your requirements and we can go from there!

Q: How do I send you my awesome custom design?

A: If the file size is less than 10mb then please email it through to us.

If it is large then you will need to use a cloud based transfer site like mailbigfile.com. When you are sending the file, please put our email address: [email protected] as the recipient address and your email address in the from address.

We will send you an email confirming that we have your artwork when we receive it.

Q: If I have a colour I love can you colour match it for me?

A: Yes we can colour match to any Pantone Colour.

It is best to use a physical Pantone Colour Formula Guide to ensure you get the exact match for your needs.

But if you don't have one available working off the screen will be approximately the same (allow 5% colour variation if working off the screen).

Q: How many colours can I use?

A: If you are going to have your custom product digitally printed then you can have unlimited colours.

If you want your custom product screen printed then the maximum number of colours that is economically feasible is six (6). Just remember when you screen print, the fewer colours you have, the more cost effective printing is.

Please note that if you would like a gradient screen printed it will be considered as three colours, not two.

Q: What file formats do you accept?

A: Artwork is best supplied in a vector format like .AI, .EPS or .CDR file with any embeded raster images at least 75DPI resolution.

It is preferable to receive artwork in 100% ratio but a minimum of 25% ratio if the artwork contains embded raster images.

We can also accept .PSD, .PNG, .TIFF or .BMP files but these should be setup to be a minimum of 75DPI.

Q: What does DPI mean?

A: DPI stands for Dots Per Inch (or sometimes refered to as PPI: Pixels Per Inch).

It is used to describe the resolution of a raster image. As a unit of measure of pixel (dot) density, it measures the number of individual dots(pixels) in a line of 1 inch (25.4mm).

So for eaxmple a 100x100 pixel image printed in a 1 inch square has a resolution of 100 pixels (dots) per inch.

Q: What is the difference between Vector and Raster graphics?

A: Do you find yourself asking what is the difference between Vector and Raster graphics as so many of our customer do?

If you do please read our handy guide which will make it easy for you to understand the differences: Vector and Raster Guide

Q: What should I check before submitting my custom design?

A: First you need to check that all colours are using either a CMYK or Pantone colour palette.

Make sure that if you are supplying more than one design that each design is in a separate file. For double sided designs both sides can be in the same or separate files, it's your choice.

Next please make sure that all text is converted to outlines as fonts render differently on different machines.

Finally make sure that any referenced files or raster images are embeded in the artwork.

If any of this is confusing just send us your artwork and we will help you get it print ready.

Q: Can I have 2 totally different designs on a double sided flag?

A: Yes you can.

But please note that along the seam of the flag or banner where the two sides join, one of the sides will have the bleed area of the other side wrapped around and sewn together.

What this means is that if you have a blue design on left side of the design and a yellow design on the right side then the blue side will have a yellow seam where the flags are sewn together.

Q: What is the safe area on my artwork?

A: This is the area where you avoid placing any critical design items. As our products are hand sewn, there is a risk that when the flag is being finished, any graphics in the safe area may not be visible.

Q: What is the finished area on my artwork?

A: This is the anticipated section of the design that will be visible when the product is finished.

Anything beyond this line is considered the bleed area and cannot be relied upon to be visible when the product is finished.

Products

Q: What is the difference between a single sided and double sided printed flag or banner?

A: The single sided printed flags and banners are only printed on one side of the material. The back will be a reverse image of the front design.

In our experience if the design is quite simple people will be able to read it even though it is reversed. For example, a flag with OPEN printed on one side will be easily read and understood from behind even though it is reversed.

Many people will read the sign without noticing the printing is reversed. It is amazing what the mind easily does for us.

As the design becomes more complex, it becomes more difficult to comprehend.

A: Our double sided printed flags and banners have two pieces of material joined together. The artwork for the front and back can be the same or totally different.

Please see this helpful image that will show you visually the differences between the single and double sided printed custom products: Visual Flag Print Comparison

Q: Can these products be used outdoors as well as indoors?

A: Yes they can!

Our products are designed to be displayed outdoors and are printed with the best quality UV stabilised inks to ensure long lasting vibrancy.

In addition, our bases are either galvanised or epoxy coated to ensure that they can handle our Australian conditions.

Q: Are these products waterproof?

A: Well... yes and no.

They are designed for outdoor use but being waterproof is a different matter!

Some of our competitors claim their products are waterproof but when you think about it, you could not use their flags and banners to hold water.

A better definition is that they can be used outdoors and can handle getting wet.

But to maximise the life of the products always try to take them out of the rain and wind.

Q: What are the printing options available for my custom made flag or banner?

A: There are two different printing options available depending on your specific requirements, type of fabric, quantity and design.

Digitally Printed

Digital printing is the preferred option for smaller print runs and higher detail requirements.

Our cutting edge digital technology enables photo quality images to be printed on any size flag or banner, and this allows us to produce cost effective flags and banners from the smallest quantity, right up to large volume needs.

The digital printing utilises the latest full dye sublimation processes to ensure the best ink penetration on the reverse side of single sided flags and banners with approximately 95% penetration when using our latest EFI Vutek printer.

Screen Printed

Screen printing is the most cost effective option for larger print runs (10 to 1,000) with simpler designs.

The artwork needs to contain up to 6 Pantone colours with simpler designs as each colour needs to be applied to the flag separately using large screens with CNC cut block out film.

Simple gradient effects can be achieved using progressively larger penetrations blending from one colour to the other, but they add to the costs and complexity of the manufacturing.

The majority of our large customers trust our screen printed flags and banners for providing the best long lasting and cost effective outdoor promotional products money can buy.

If you would like a screen printing quote please contact us with your requirements and one of our helpful staff will work with you to achieve the most cost effective result to match your requirements.

Please see this helpful image that will show you visually the differences between the Digital and Screen printed custom products: Visual Flag Print Comparison

Q: What are the material options available for my custom made flag or banner?

A: There are many different types of fabric available but we mainly recommend using the following:

Single Sided Digital

For single sided Digital printing of flags we prefer to print on open weave knitted polyester ranging in weight from 110gsm to 130gsm. The open weave allows the maximum penetration of the the ink to the reverse side, but does have the side effect of being slightly transparent.

For our fabric banners and table cloths where there is no requirement for the product to be viewed from behind a much thicker 150gsm to 240gsm knitted polyester is used.

For custom single sided vinyl banners the material can range from 380gsm vinyl up to a 600gsm fabric reinforced option. We can also print on a long life material called Airtex which is designed to handle heavy winds by leaving large air gaps in the fabric but the finished product is quite transparent.

Double Sided Digital

For double sided Digital printing of flags we prefer to print on a 165gsm block out polyester.

Because this material is block out, only two layers of material are required, resulting in a lighter flag that can handle the weather better and is not noisy when it moves in the breeze.

On request we can manufacture a three layer double sided flag with your choice of either regular or shiny (Trilobal threads) knitted polyester with a blockout layer in the middle. But our customers do report that the noise of the layers rubbing together is sometimes irritating and the resultant flag is heavier and moves less in the wind.

For custom double sided vinyl banners the material can range from 380gsm vinyl up to 440gsm and is a good option for when you need banners displayed on your boundary fencing with both sides being able to be viewed.

Single Sided Screen Printed

Our most popular material is the 130gsm knitted polyester manufactured with Trilobal threads resulting in an eye catching and shiny finish.

As the screen printing process mechanically forces the ink through the material the weave can be very tight resulting in an almost opaque looking flag. Another options is our 160gsm woven material which is very heavy duty and quite often used in extreme conditions. For example, flags flown on bulk freighters are often made of 160gsm material.

We can also print on a long life material called Airtex which is designed to handle heavy winds by leaving large air gaps in the fabric but the finished product is quite transparent.

For custom single sided vinyl banners the material can range from 380gsm vinyl up to 600gsm fabric reinforced option.

Double Sided Screen Printed

Our most popular material is also the 130gsm knitted polyester manufactured with Trilobal threads resulting in a bright, stand out finish. With these flags and banners, three layers of material, including a block out layer is required. Some customers do report that the noise of the layers rubbing together is sometimes irritating and the resultant flag is heavier and moves less in the wind.

For custom double sided vinyl banners the material can range from 380gsm vinyl up to 440gsm and is a good option for when you need banners displayed on your boundary fencing with both sides being able to be viewed.

Of course if you have a specific material requirement please contact us and one of our helpful staff will work with you to meet your requirements.

Q: What material options do you have for the sleeve for my custom made flag?

A: Feather, Teardrop and Flat Top Flags: Our most popular option is the black 200 denier woven sleeve material that we use on all our popular premade products.

This is very durable and can handle the constant movement of the flag against the pole.

Alternatively we can also supply a white sleeve and for larger orders, we can custom dye the sleeve material to suit your needs.

The final option is to make the sleeve out of the flag material which looks great but unless the flag is well cared for they will tend to suffer premature failure as the flag material is not designed to handle the constant abrasion.

A: Standard Rectangular Flags: Our most popular option is the white 200 denier woven sleeve material that we use on all our popular premade standand flags.

This is very durable and can handle the constant movement of the flag against the pole.

Alternatively we can also supply a black sleeve or for largers order custom dye the sleeve material to suit your needs.

The final option is to make the sleeve out of the flag material which looks great but unless well cared for will tend to suffer premature failure as the material is not designed to handle the constant abrasion.

Q: What other finishing options do you have available?

A: Feather, Teardrop and Flat Top Flags: We can finish these flags with either a string finish sewn into the sleeve or wrapped inside a pocket sewn into the bottom of the sleeve.

Alternatively we can sewn a small polyester loop into the bottom, a plastic sister clip or even install eyelets into the sleeve to allow a rope or bungee cord to be used to hold the flag into the pole.

A: Standard Rectangular Flags: We can finish these flags with a small polyester loop sewn into the bottom and top of the sleeve.

As an option, it is possible to install a plastic sister clip or even insert eyelets into the sleeve to allow a rope or bungee cord to be used to hold the flag into the pole.

A: Vinyl Banners: We can finish off these banners with either a string finish sewn or glued into the seam of the banner or install eyelets along the edges to allow a rope, cable ties or a bungee cord to be used to hold the banner in place.

Q: How long will my product last?

A: This is a common question but one that does not have a simple answer.

There are many factors determining the life of outdoor products such as exposure to the sun, rain, wind, pollution, hail, birds and insects. Other factors include the materials used to make the product with the fabric, inks, colour and design factoring into the life span. Finally correct storage and maintenance also helps extend the flag life.

In an extreme example where a fabric flag is left outside 24/7 in all weather conditions, the life of the flag should be at least 6 months in the tropical regions and up to 18 months in sheltered, less harsh conditions in Tasmania.

Ultimately flags and banners are a consumable item that you should look to replace every 6 months to 1 year.

But you can get some great tips on extending the life of our products by reading this blog post.

Q: How can I look after my flag to make it last longer?

A: Try to reduce exposure to extreme weather by protecting your flag during storms and heavy winds. Even bringing your flag in each evening will extend it's life.
